What does the future we actually want to live in look like and feel like? Harmonious World is the first in a new participatory exhibition series by The Woom Room, built around that one question.
At its heart is the Harmony Pod: a quilted cocoon made from upcycled materials, set inside the big bowl of The Loading Bay skatepark under a mesh canopy, with projected animations by Rosa Sawyers and Ross Blair. Installed by Jordan Fergusson.
Inside, a short questionnaire asks you to imagine your future utopia: community, relationships, care, connection and the environment. Anonymised answers go to a researcher at Edinburgh Napier University working in the climate sector, to share what people want with grassroots organisations, companies and scientists.
Around the pod hang A0+ prints by eight Scotland-based artists on hope, harmony, resilience, empowerment, relationship repair and community care, with plenty of humour, colour and joy.
Why a skatepark? We were inspired by Climate Skaters Kiteezi in Uganda, who use skating to bring their community together around climate education, recycling and youth empowerment.
This isn't an exhibition that claims to know what utopia looks like. We're asking Scotland (and beyond) to help us imagine it.
The week opens with Lazer Jest, our launch party on Saturday 7 November, 8pm to 1am: lasers, aerial performers, projection and a club night across the skatepark. Come as a clown or a jester, ideally in something upcycled. Launch party tickets are below the exhibition tickets.
Exhibition open daily 11am to 10pm, Sunday 8 to Saturday 14 November. Entry is £1, with no booking fee.
An exhibition ticket gets you in on any one day of the week. It does not cover the launch party.
Launch party: Saturday 7 November, 8pm to 1am. 18+, please bring photo ID.
Launch party tiers: each one goes on sale when the one before sells out. Prices include a £1 booking fee.
The questionnaire is optional, and answers are anonymised.
No refunds, but you can pass your ticket on to a friend.
Tickets are transferable from your ticket page.
